That last thing you want is to drive several kilometers to meet up with training partners. So guess what? We have several groups running together in various parts of Chennai city, and you can pick the one closest or most convenient to you! How awesome is that?
Each area run will be co-ordinated by one/two enthusiastic members of our crew. They have already done a bunch of homework – put together maps, and made a run schedule. They will be your running buddies!
Maps, Information, Schedule
Please follow the links below for further information about each of the area runs. You will find maps of the running route to be followed (Start and End points marked), contact information, and the run schedule. Different workouts are planned for different days of the week and you will find this marked clearly as well.
Saturday Beginner’s Run
On Saturdays, we have a special run for those of you who think you are absolute beginners. The meeting point is outside Dimensions Gym (Alwarpet: See Map in Alwarpet link above). This is a very gentle 3-5 km run/walk/chat/catch up type run. Start with this to build confidence if you are coming off an injury break or are truly a beginner. Assembly Time: 6:15 am. Run Start Time: 6:30 am.
Sunday Classic (see map)
On Sundays, most of the folks deep in their training will bask in the glory of a “Long Run” (various distances from 10 km upwards). This starts early (to beat the sun), and the meeting point is in the Anna University Parking Lot (see map). A majority of the runners will go on the “Chennai Runners Classic” route (see map) which is 16 kms traversing various parts of the city. Some runners turn back for a 10 km run, and of course you know every group has those unnamed insane people that go on for longer. Perhaps the best part of this special run is that everyone meets up afterwards for breakfast at the AU canteen! Nothing more delicious than a dosa and coffee after a refreshing long run! Assembly Time (for the run, not breakfast!): 5 am. Run Start Time: 5:15 am.
One of our young, enthusiastic members, Anandhaselvan, also directs shorter runs for beginners, on Sundays. These will be entirely within the beautiful Anna University campus, with the same meeting point and time
Note to Beginners
Intimidated by all this information? Think all these people are crazy for running so much – like horses – but committed to getting to your 10km goal? No worries! You can join the crazy folks, let them run what they want, and you run the distance you feel comfortable with. The experienced runners will happily impart advice, run a few paces with you, etc. but ultimately, you are the best judge of how much you want to run on a given day! Check out our couch-to-10K program specifically designed with expert advice for someone just getting into running
